This month is full of official days and a lot of good reminders. As May flowers into beautiful weather and bright tulips, the following days (as well as several others not listed) were marked on the calendar to celebrate culture, to raise awareness for health, and to congratulate young adults.

Cinco de Mayo

On May 5, 1862, the Mexican Army was victorious against the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla and Cinco de Mayo is in place to remind us of that wonderful historic win! The day has also been used to celebrate Mexican-American culture. Remember to drink responsibly and to have fun!

Mother’s Day

May 13th, a day to appreciate and show love to our mothers; the ones who raised you and who love you with all their hearts. If you didn’t grow up with a mom or with a loving mom then take the day to appreciate whoever did raise you whether it was your dad or a family friend. Just let them know you love them.

Motorcycle Safety Month

Nice weather means lots of bicyclists and motorcyclists! You may be tempted to feel the wind in your hair, but don’t go out without a helmet; don’t head out to the open road with freedom in mind, but not your safety.

National Smile Month

Every day is a good day to smile, but this month is a reminder! In the UK, May 14 – June 14 has been designated to promote oral health by highlighting these messages:

Graduations

Seniors you’re almost free! High schoolers and college students are buzzing as the time approaches while other students are ready for the summer. Long study sessions and doubtful tears are about to be over, the future awaits! Good luck out there, guys!

Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month

This month also goes to skin cancer awareness and prevention. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the US in which over 2 million people are annually diagnosed. Keep your skin protected against the sun and get regular check ups!

It is important to be safe while having fun so let’s do our best to do both. Be sure to look up other important reminders in the month of May and let’s all get ready for the summer months!
